UniSync is a productivity tool designed for BYU students, combining calendar information from the Learning Suite and assignment to-do lists from Canvas to help you stay organized.
UniSync is available as both a web/mobile app and a Chrome browser extension.

- Name
- Email address
- Device and browser information
- Analytics data (e.g., app and extension usage and performance metrics)
Additional Data from Chrome Extension
When using the UniSync Chrome Extension, we access and process data from specific educational platforms (such as Canvas and BYU Learning Suite) to provide core functionality.
This may include:
- Course names and identifiers
- Assignment details (e.g., titles, due dates)
- Schedule or calendar-related information
- Page content necessary to extract this information
This data is securely transmitted to and stored on our servers in order to synchronize your academic information across devices and provide a consistent user experience.
We only access data on supported educational platforms and do not collect or store unrelated browsing activity, history, or personal content from other websites.
2A. Browser Permissions and Data Access
The UniSync Chrome Extension requires certain browser permissions to function properly.
These permissions allow us to:
- Access and read content on specific domains (such as Canvas and BYU Learning Suite)
- Extract relevant academic information (e.g., assignments, deadlines, and schedules)
- Transmit this information securely to our servers for synchronization and display
We limit data access strictly to what is necessary for the extension's functionality.

UniSync collects personal data directly from you and from third-party platforms that you choose to connect.
In particular, the UniSync Chrome Extension accesses data from educational platforms such as Canvas and BYU Learning Suite, but only when you actively use the extension on those platforms.
We do not collect data from third-party platforms unless you have authorized access through your use of the extension.
2C. User Authorization and Responsibility
By using the UniSync Chrome Extension, you authorize UniSync to access and process information from supported educational platforms (such as Canvas and BYU Learning Suite) on your behalf.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of UniSync complies with the terms of service of those platforms.
UniSync does not control or assume responsibility for the data practices, policies, or restrictions of third-party platforms.
3. Why We Collect Your Data
We process your personal data for the following purposes:
- Account creation and authentication
- Syncing academic data (e.g., assignments, schedules)
- Extracting and organizing academic information from supported platforms (e.g., Canvas) to display within the app
- Synchronizing academic data across devices by securely storing extracted course and assignment information on our servers
- Sending notifications and updates
- Marketing and advertising (if applicable)

- Improving app and extension functionality and user experience
4. Legal Basis for Processing
